Learn: Foresters in Alberta
Tracey Courser’s father was a forester, and her own love of the forest led her to follow in his footsteps. In her role as a Planning Superintendent with a forestry company, she puts her forestry training to work to make sure forests will always be here for future generations of Albertans. She’s a key part of the careful planning that takes place before any harvesting happens and ensures that the area is successfully regenerated after harvest.
Foresters like Tracey are trained professionals who specialize in forest management and plan, direct and execute forest management activities. In Alberta, it takes at least an undergraduate degree in forestry and registration with the Association of Alberta Forest Management Professionals to work as a forester.
Individual foresters have different areas of interest, expertise and specialization, but all of them share a love of forests and a passion for helping them thrive. Strategic harvest planning and forest regeneration are just one way that foresters make sure Alberta’s forests stay healthy and strong.
